JobFAQs

Response

How many impressions will my advert receive on the website?
Your advert will be on the website for one month. Typically the job offers page receives about 1,500 visits a month.
How many people are likely to respond to my advert? How often do adverts result in placements?
We do not routinely ask job posters for this information so it is difficult for us to make an accurate estimate. Anecdotally it appears that more senior permanent roles result in better responses than more junior ones and we have tended to have very good response rates for contracts. Listing the name of your company and including an indicative salary seems to increase the response rate.

Location

Can I advertise a job in the Home Counties even though it is outside the M25?
Perhaps. We will make a judgment on how well the advert will appeal to our members and let you know.
Can I advertise a “work from home” job where the office is based outside London?
As long as visits to the office would be infrequent, yes.
I am looking for a PHP developer outside London. Are there similar organisations in my location?
Possibly. Try searching for “PHP user group in (your location)”.

Charge

Why do you charge £50 per advert per month?
We are primarily a user group and not a job board. The charge allows us to reduce the number of job postings we have to deal with. This is necessarily a manual process to prevent spam.
Is there a minimum term? Can I post an advert for less than a month and pay less?
There is no minimum term. You can post any expiry date you like on your advert, but you will still be charged a minimum of £50.
Can I post a trial advert for free and pay for the second one if it is successful?
No. This would significantly increase our workload dealing with job postings.
Can I get a bulk discount?
No. An advert on our site is only likely to get a good response if it is well targeted to our membership in any case.
How will I be charged?
We will send you a PayPal payment request prior to posting your advert. We accept payment by PayPal only and do not post out invoices.
I regularly attend PHP London meetings and am looking to recruit within my own company. Can you waive the £50 charge?
No, sorry.

Content

What should I include in my advert?
A job title, location within London, indicative salary, whether the job is permanent or contract, full or part time, a brief description of the role, and an email address for applicants.
How long should the description be?
As short as reasonably possible. We recommend no more than 500 words.
Do I have to include a salary?
We strongly advise that you do. In our experience an accurate salary is much more likely to generate useful applications.
Can I include logos or other imagery in the advert?
No.
My job does not involve PHP but involves a similar web development language or is somehow web related. Can I post it anyway?
No.

Other Recruitment Possibilities

How else can PHP London help me find placements?
You could attend one of our monthly meetings, on the first Thursday of the month in a central London pub, and speak with some of our members. Usually around 150 show up to each meeting and there is a mix of developers, project managers, and others with a slight tendency towards freelancers. If you are a recruiter who often has openings for PHP developers, you could also consider sponsoring our annual UK PHP conference. We regret that we cannot make personal recommendations or give access to our member list.
