Role description:

Lead technical web developer responsible for the development and enhancement of new and existing Web applications developed in OO PHP and MYSQL. We are looking for someone who is motivated, enthusiastic and innovative with a decent understanding of project management principles and disciplines.

Skills:

For your application to be considered, you will need to have at least 2 years commercial experience with the following:

  • Object-oriented PHP
  • MYSQL
  • LINUX
  • XML based API
  • Smarty template engine
  • HTML/CSS/Java Script
  • Coding and maintaining a high traffic, scalable website.
  • User oriented development

Experience:

As well as the core skills, we would require the individual to have a good deal of experience in the following key disciplines:

  • Project / Team leadership
  • Agile software development

  • XHTML
  • Flash
  • Maintaining Linux servers

Desirable:

A knowledge of the following disciplines is not essential, but would be highly advantageous:

  • Experience with SOLR / Lucene search.

  • Experience with MVC framework
  • Subversion / Trac
  • Memcached
  • Web services and syndication
  • CruiseControl/Ant builds

Education and qualifications:

Honours degree level education in relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrated knowledge.

This is a position where you will be able to contribute to the development of a rapidly expanding company and design and implement Web based systems from the ground up. Key to the role is the development of an entirely new version of our current retail offering. Although management have a very clear idea of what they would like the site to do, they will not be prescriptive as to how it should be done and therefore need a very creative, innovative and hard working individual who can get the job done. The initial redevelopment will require other junior developers so you will need to know how to manage a team of 2-3 developers. If you have the skills required, are a self-starter and are looking for a career boosting challenge then please do not delay in applying for this position.

The Role

We already have some amazing (or so we think) guys working on our core product. We’re now looking for a person to join the team in London and help with our growing commitments and ambitious product roadmap. Apart from technical skills, we’re looking for a person who enjoys taking ownership of his/her work and managing themselves; can communicate with our increasing number of enterprise clients, but above all someone who is fun to work with and who would relish the opportunity to join a small, passionate and dedicated team.

Here are some of the core technical skills we’re after:

  • Experience with development of scalable web sites using PHP and advanced frameworks. Python, Java experience is a plus
  • Relational database skills are a must and it’d be great if you have experience with enterprise level databases
  • HTML, Javascript frameworks (JQuery)
  • Sys admin skills are a plus. You don’t have to be a master, but knowing your way around Apache & Linux would help
  • Experience with the iPhone SDK and Objective C is a plus
  • Excellent software architecture skills and obsessive compulsion about clean, well structure code

Role and responsibilities

Our technical team is always working on very hard problems from optimizing search algorithms, to visualization and manipulation of results. We are looking for a full time developer to join our team and work on the web interface to the search engine. This will include, but not be limited to:

  • Building new UI features (database right through to ajax)
  • Implementation of new designs and layouts
  • Optimization, debugging, and refactoring of existing front end code
  • Support of SEO activities

Technical skills

Essential

  • Excellent working knowledge of PHP/MySQL and web application development
  • A minimum of 2 years commercial experience in PHP development
  • High level of confidence in JS/CSS/HTML
  • Strong academic record, a graduate in a science or technology subject
